The Elegant Trogon lives in Central American forests. Males have bronzy-green upperparts and a red belly, while females are gray-brown and differ in color.
The male is bronzy green from head through breast, with a red belly. The female is gray-brown, has less red on the belly, and shows a white squiggle behind the eye.
It sits quietly on a perch and darts out to catch insects. It occurs in lowland woodland, canyons, and mountain forests, reaching about 2,000 m and locally higher.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
