Sylvilagus gabbi is a cottontail of Central American lowland tropical forest. The nominate subspecies, S. g. gabbi, is described as brown with dark and pale bands and an orange nape.
The nominate form is mostly brown, with black and cream-to-buff bands in its agouti fur. The account describes a bright orange nape patch shorter than the ears.
A 1920 Panama account says the nominate form favors dense undergrowth at forest edges and old clearings and appears to feed mainly at night.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
