The Dusky Tetraka had not been documented since 1999 until expeditions recorded it at remote rainforest sites in northeast Madagascar in December 2022 and January 2023.
It is a small bird with olive plumage and a yellow throat. The report says that so few confirmed observations exist that its finer identification features remain difficult to establish.
During a January 2023 expedition, a bird was seen hopping on the ground in dense undergrowth beside a rocky river. The two birds observed spent much of their time in riverside vegetation; the report suggests they may have been searching for insects and other prey in the damp undergrowth.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
