The Iquitos Gnatcatcher was described from tall white-sand forest in Peru’s Allpahuayo-Mishana Reserve. The 2005 description knew it only from that reserve and based its plumage account on male specimens.
The male described in the original paper is bluish gray, with a slightly broken white eye-ring and extensive white on the outer tail feathers. No female specimen was available, and the holotype may be a juvenile.
The 2005 description reports it from tall, Caraipa-dominated varillal, a white-sand forest at Allpahuayo-Mishana Reserve west of Iquitos. At that time, the authors knew it only from the reserve.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
