This nocturnal nightjar lives in lowlands on and around the Yucatan Peninsula. It stays concealed near the ground by day and catches flying insects at night.
It is about 19–22 cm long, with finely mottled gray-brown plumage that blends into its surroundings. White on the throat and tips of the outer tail feathers help identify it.
It is nocturnal and makes short sallies for flying insects. It uses dry woodland and scrub and rests by day in camouflage.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
