Researchers compiled marine mammal strandings recorded along southern Brazil from 1976 to 2013. The dataset contained 12,540 events across 40 species, including whales, dolphins and seals. The long-running record was used to describe how species and stranding events varied over time and by season.Analyses of changes over time and by season used records of dead animals.
The species table listed one Spectacled Porpoise stranding in the dataset. Some marine mammals were recorded much more often, while this porpoise appeared only once in the regional records. The table classifies the Spectacled Porpoise as rare.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
