The woolly giant rat is a large rodent of savannas and grasslands in Brazil and Bolivia. Its strong forefeet and long claws help it dig.
Its fur is coarse, and its ears, tail, and limbs are relatively short. The forefeet are large and carry long, powerful claws.
It is semifossorial and has been observed living in burrows and feeding on grass roots and arthropods, although direct observations are few.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
