The Karatau Argali is a wild sheep of the Karatau Mountains in southern Kazakhstan. It has a dark-brown body, paler neck, and white belly, and uses rocky valleys and slopes.
It has a dark-brown body, paler neck, and short creamy-white ruff that blends with the body fur. A dark band separates the white belly from the flanks; the fronts of the forelegs are white, the hindlegs have dark stripes, and the white rump patch stops at the tail base.
The northwestern Karatau slopes include ravines, cliffs, and scree; deep valleys hold trees and tall shrubs. Animals rest in tall grass or brush and seldom use plateaus where livestock are present. They may descend to lower ground in snowy winters.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
