The Rufescent Prinia is recorded at forest edges, in scrub, bamboo, and upland grassland in Bangladesh. The country's bird Red List describes it in small daytime flocks and foraging near the ground for insects.
An older specimen account describes the nominate subspecies, P. r. rufescens, with a brownish-slate crown and nape in summer and a rufous-brown tone in winter. The back is rufous brown; white underparts have a buff wash strongest on the flanks and undertail coverts.
The Bangladesh Red List says it moves unobtrusively near the ground in forest understory, scrub, bamboo, and grassy openings while searching for insects. It is recorded in small flocks by day.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
