This sparrow was documented in Ruma National Park, south-west Kenya, in 2017. Males show a white cheek and a black line behind the eye; the report also describes a nest in an acacia tree.
Males observed at Ruma had a dark eye and a black post-ocular line bordering cinnamon feathers behind the ear-coverts. Their cheeks and area in front of the eye were white. The report does not establish a detailed female description.
At Ruma National Park, a nest was recorded in Acacia drepanolobium within moderately treed grassland on black clay soils. This is a local observation, not an estimate of nest-site use across the species’ range.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
