The silver mountain vole is recorded in high-elevation parts of Central and South Asia. Its upper coat varies geographically, while the underside is described as pale.
The 1999 account describes upper-coat colors ranging from yellowish or rusty through gray-brown to dark brown, with a light-gray to nearly white underside. The tail is sparsely haired.
A 2005 Pakistan assessment lists high-altitude grassland as habitat. That assessment does not describe the species' diet or daily activity.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
