A small seabird that breeds on tropical and subtropical Pacific islands. It flies in flocks close to the sea and takes small prey at the surface.
The upperparts are pale blue-gray and the underparts off-white; the wing tips and upper-tail tip are dark. It has a slender pointed black bill and a short, shallowly forked tail.
Small flocks forage close to shore, dipping at the sea surface or pattering their feet on the water to catch prey. They breed in loose colonies on cliffs and rocky ground.
