This flycatcher inhabits dry woodland and scrub from Mexico to northwestern Central America. It resembles related Myiarchus flycatchers; the yellow on the belly helps distinguish it.
Adults resemble Ash-throated Flycatchers but have a slightly brighter yellow belly; the tail pattern is another clue.
It uses forests, open woodland, scrub, savanna, and thickets. Arizona records are accidental rather than part of its regular range.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
