This small crested hummingbird occurs in the Atlantic Forest of southeastern Brazil. A 2014 taxonomic study restored the boundary between two forms that earlier authors had treated as one species.
Adult males have a green crest, dark-green back and crown, gray ear-coverts, and violet-blue chin, throat, and abdomen. Females have green backs and crowns with whitish underparts.
It uses humid and montane forest, moist scrub, and altered tropical forest, taking nectar from flowers in forest and scrub. It usually lays two eggs.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
