This entry treats Glaucidium griseiceps as the Central American Pygmy Owl. It was formerly treated as a subspecies of the Least Pygmy Owl, and sources differ on the status of its local forms.
The head and nape are greyish, while the back is more rufous. The centre of the underside is whitish, with rufous mottles and streaks toward the sides. The tail has pale bands, and the nape shows markings like eyes.
It is active both by day and at night, and mainly uses the upper half of humid lowland and foothill forest.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
