The golden-mantled tree kangaroo is an arboreal mammal of New Guinea, marked by golden fur from the back to the shoulders.
The head, neck and upper back are pale yellow to golden, contrasting with dark reddish-brown flanks and limbs. The ear margins are white, and the tail has pale yellow to white rings and blotches. The tail is longer than the head and body combined.
It has been recorded in mid-montane forest at 680–1,700 m elevation. The Tenkile Conservation Alliance reports that it has kept and bred this species in captivity at its base in Lumi, Papua New Guinea.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
