Adults have a yellow-green body, dark grey head, black cheek stripe, and red bill. The purple-red wing patch is nearly always absent in females.
It is active by day and eats leaf buds, flowers, fruit, and seeds. It may forage in pairs or family groups and gather at communal roosts at dusk.
