Willard’s Sooty Boubou was described from a small series of specimens from the western Albertine Rift. The description reports collection localities in Uganda and Burundi, but the few specimens do not establish a complete range.
The described specimens have all-black plumage, bill and legs, with grey to blue-grey irises.
The holotype was collected in mixed hardwood forest at Nteko, southern Uganda, at about 1,600 m. The paper also reports type-series specimens from Kibira National Park in Burundi.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
