The Caucasian mountain ground squirrel lives in high meadows and mountain steppe of the central Caucasus and spends winter in burrows.
Its back is generally gray, and the tail has a three-color pattern of gray, dark, and pale bands.
It is active by day in alpine meadows and mountain steppe. High-elevation populations emerge from hibernation later than lower-elevation ones.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
