A bushshrike with glossy blue-black upperparts and a white underside. It uses dense forest cover along eastern Africa's coast and rivers.
The upperparts and tail are glossy blue-black. The underparts are white, sometimes with a buff or pink tinge on the breast and flanks; an all-glossy-black morph also occurs.
It prefers dense cover in forest, at forest edges and in riparian woodland. It forages low down, eating mostly insects as well as fruit and small vertebrates.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
