The Slaty Bunting breeds in central China and moves southeast for winter. Males and females have different plumage.
Adult males are mainly slaty grey, with white on the lower belly. First-winter males have brownish wings, while females are dull buff-brown over the head and mantle.
It inhabits forests and gives a short, high-pitched song. The account places its winter range southeast of its breeding area.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
