A large owl widespread in North America, recognized by its earlike feather tufts and yellow eyes. It uses forests, wetlands, grasslands, and even green spaces in towns.
Long feather tufts make ear-like points above its large yellow eyes and rounded face. Its broad wings help it maneuver among trees.
It hunts mainly at night, watching for prey from a perch. Mammals such as rabbits and mice and many birds are common prey, along with other small animals.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
