The San Cristobal Shrew is a small shrew known from the highlands of Chiapas, Mexico. Its back is brown and its tail is slightly paler underneath. The 2017 morphometric study and the 2018 handbook treat it as a species, while the Mammal Diversity Database places it within Sorex salvini.
It has a medium-brown back, lighter-brown hips and rump, and a light reddish-brownish-gray underside. The tail is about 80% of head-and-body length and slightly paler underneath. Matson and Ordóñez-Garza note that specimens near El Triunfo, Chiapas, have a more reddish-brown back.
A field study in Chiapas recorded this shrew in cloud forest at 2,367 m and pine-oak forest at 2,330 m. These are documented collection habitats.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
