The Palani Laughingthrush is a small bird of the hills of southwest India. It has an olive-brown back, a white eyebrow, and a rusty belly, and searches low scrub for insects and fruit. It was formerly treated as conspecific with the Ashambu Laughingthrush; this entry follows the current separate species concept.
Its upperparts are dull olive-brown and its crown is grey-brown. A narrow brown eye-stripe lies below a white eyebrow; the belly and vent are rusty chestnut.
It uses scrub, secondary forest, broadleaf-forest edges, and streamside thickets in tea and cardamom plantations. It searches low branches and bushes for insects, berries, and fruit.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
