This vole is known from the Liangshan Mountains of Sichuan, China. The original specimens were collected in fir–spruce forest with bamboo understory and in humid spruce forest with bamboo and moss.
The holotype has a yellow-brown back and pale yellow underside with a gradual color transition. Its tail is black-brown above and grey-white below. Paratypes were darker above and paler below.
Known collection sites at about 2,560–3,100 m include fir-spruce forest with bamboo understory and humid spruce forest with abundant bamboo and moss.
