The North Island Kokako is endemic to New Zealand's North Island, where it lives in native forest. It has blue-gray plumage and blue wattles, and feeds in trees on fruit, leaves, and insects.
It has blue-gray plumage and blue wattles hanging beside the face. An older broad-species account gives blue wattles for the North Island form and distinguishes them from the South Island form.
It spends time in the forest canopy and eats fruit, leaves, and insects. The foraging setting and foods are limited to what the older account attributes to the North Island subspecies.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
