This small spiny rat was studied in the Peruvian Amazon. It is brown above, with a sharply contrasting white underside from the chin to the anus.
It is among the smaller members of its genus. The upperparts are brown, while the underside from chin to anus is white. The fur is coarse and includes spine-like hairs.
Six specimens in the Peruvian study came from primary upland forest or primary white-sand forest; all were caught in traps set on the ground. These records show where and how they were collected, but do not establish activity time or diet.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
