The Black-chested Tyrant is a small tyrant flycatcher of forests in northern South America. It moves through understory bamboo and secondary growth near rivers, taking small insects among the foliage.
It is about 12–13 cm long. The male has a black crest, rufous face and chest, a black breast band, and yellow at the bases of the flight feathers.
It catches insects while moving through dense understory bamboo. Records include both terra firme forest and secondary growth near rivers.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
