The smoky pocket gopher is a burrowing rodent of the southern Mexican Plateau, where volcanic soils occur. Its large foreclaws help it dig underground.
It has soft, loose fur and small, rounded ears. The forefeet bear large claws, while the hind feet are described as having short white fur.
It lives alone in underground burrows and can move backward quickly through them. Its plant foods include roots, fruits, stems, and leaves.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
