The Blue-tailed Trogon occurs in humid forest from western Colombia to northwestern Ecuador. Males are green, females gray, and much of its breeding behavior remains undocumented.
Males have green heads and upperparts, a black throat, and a white ring around the eye. Females are pale gray on the head and back, with darker gray wings.
March is reported as the breeding season, and males have sometimes been seen singing in small groups. Nests and foods have not been directly observed, so much of its life remains poorly known.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
