This woodcock has been recorded in several forest types on Obi Island in the North Moluccas, especially near rivers and streams. Researchers also observed display flights at dawn and dusk.
It is described as the largest member of the woodcock genus, with a larger build than its relatives.
During display flights, a single bird flew with shallow wingbeats about 10 m above the canopy and called at intervals. The authors interpreted the displays as territorial.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
