The Anhui musk deer is known only from China's Dabie Mountains. The Mammal Diversity Database currently treats it as a species, and a 2025 whole-genome study supports its distinction from other musk deer.
Its coat is grayish brown, with clear stripes on the neck and spots on the body.
Infrared-camera monitoring in Wanfoshan Provincial Nature Reserve found that it was mainly active at night.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
