Its grey-to-white eye with a dark rim is conspicuous. It feeds mainly on fruit and insects, foraging in forest canopies and mid-storeys.
The sexes are similar, with a rufous-olive crown and olive-brown back and wings. The grey-to-white eye has a contrasting dark rim, and the throat is pale. Juveniles are duller than adults and have a light brown eye.
It uses evergreen and mixed deciduous forest, edges, and secondary forest with bamboo or vines, from lowlands to about 1,000 m. It takes fruit and insects in the canopy and middle storey.
The source lists breeding in April in northern Thailand and gives no other breeding information.
