An introduction to the Ducula genus describes grey, pink, and maroon as its dominant plumage colours. In an adult sample studied in New Caledonia, researchers found no plumage colour difference between the sexes.
It is arboreal and mainly eats fruit. Digestive samples from 63 birds at Forêt Plate on Grande Terre contained fruits from at least 22 tree species.
