The Rufous-capped Spinetail occurs in dense thickets and forest edges from eastern Brazil into neighboring countries. It hops on the ground and, when disturbed, flies to the nearest thicket.
It has a dark brown crown, wings and tail. The account notes a yellowish line behind the eye in adults, absent in immature birds.
It forages by hopping on the ground by day, taking insects, spiders and other small invertebrates. When flushed, it usually flies only to the nearest thicket.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
