Known from Europe east to Azerbaijan, this spider has lateral markings on the upper plate of the front body.
Lateral markings on the upper front-body plate help distinguish it from Pholcus manueli and Pholcus phalangioides, with which it has often been confused.
In July 2006, males and females were collected at a house near Molln, Austria. In 2004 at other sites, males and a female were collected among rocks, and a female was collected in a pile of bricks.
In 2007, males and females were also collected in a greenhouse and a pantry in Ukraine.
In the described male from Austria, the upper front-body plate is pale ochre-yellow with a distinct brown band divided along the middle. Its lateral markings are less distinct.
Its abdomen is unpatterned ochre-gray and its legs are ochre-yellow. Some males have slightly darker rings near the ends of the femora.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
