The Tagula Manucode is endemic to Tagula Island. It was formerly treated as a subspecies of Glossy-mantled Manucode, but IOC recognized it as a species in 2022 based on vocal and morphological differences.
It is larger than mainland Glossy-mantled Manucodes, with a longer bill and tail and a rich purple sheen on the underparts, especially the belly and flanks. A photographed female shows bluish mantle and neck iridescence.
A few field observations place it in shaded, densely vegetated forest and gullies, moving in the understorey singly or in presumed pairs. It hops between perches and gives a deep, short woo-hoot.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
