A 2014–2016 survey on Jeju Island recorded nine animals at four sites. These records do not represent the species' full range.
Adult coat color varies by locality from buffy or drab gray to smoke gray. The back may look darkened but lacks a distinct stripe. The underside ranges from white to dull gray, the upper lip and chin are pure white, and the tail tip is frequently beige or white.
The Jeju survey found animals in forests, shrubs, grasslands, cultivated or fallow land, often near small brooks, dry streams, or wetlands. Some records were close to roads and forest paths.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
