This rail occurs in the Bemaraha and Beanka massifs of west-central Madagascar. The paper describing it gives a detailed account of an adult male specimen.
In the adult male holotype, the crown and upper nape are mottled gray and dark brown; a cinnamon-rufous throat and moustachial stripe reaches the lower eye, and the breast and upper flanks are dark cinnamon-rufous.
The adult male holotype label places it in a slightly disturbed valley of dry deciduous forest, where trees reached about 20 m. This is the habitat at one specimen collection site.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
