The Ceram flying fox is known from only a small number of recorded individuals in the Moluccas. A 2015 study reported a new record from western Seram.
It has pale reddish-brown rings of fur around the eyes. Researchers used this pattern as one clue when identifying a specimen.
Researchers could not locate a breeding colony during the 2015 survey, so the study could not establish whether the species forms colonies.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
