A bird-of-paradise from the Bird's Head (Vogelkop) Peninsula at the western end of New Guinea. Its male courtship display differs from that of its close relative and helped support recognition as a separate species.
During display, the male fans black feathers into a crescent edged with electric-blue feathers rather than the oval shape of its relative.
The male slides from side to side during courtship instead of hopping around the female.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
