This bat is recorded from southern Thailand through mainland Southeast Asia and islands in Indonesia and the Philippines. The species account lists it from several kinds of forest.
The fur is smooth, thick, and silky. The back is generally deep brown, with dark-based hairs tipped pale gray or brown; the underside is paler and grayer, and young animals are grayer still. The ears are funnel-shaped, with a fold extending from the base halfway along the rear edge. A smooth, thickened pad at the base of the thumbs helps the bat grip.
HMW records the species in tropical primary, dry, hill, lowland, montane, and ridge-top mossy forests. Peat bog and heath-forest records are specifically from Borneo. The account gives an elevation range of 60–1,600 m.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
