Carleton and Goodman describe the E. majori group as short-furred, with relatively long tails and short, weak tufts. E. petteri has a dark tuft, whereas E. grandidieri has a white one.
A 2025 stable-isotope study’s comparison table places E. petteri in moist central-eastern Madagascar forest and labels it primarily terrestrial. It reports one specimen; possible partial arboreality is not a direct observation.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
