A wild goat of Central Asian mountain ranges, both sexes have horns, but those of males grow especially long and large.
The female’s horns are relatively small and curve backward, while the male’s horns are much larger and curved. Males also have a long beard.
A habitat model for Siberian Ibex in China’s Tianshan Mountains identified terrain ruggedness and elevation as important for both sexes. Females used a broader range of elevations and were more strongly associated with rugged terrain and areas near rivers.
The modeled suitable areas overlapped by 35.12%. Their estimated areas were 14.21 square kilometres for females and 26.17 for males, showing a difference in the extent of suitable habitat within the same mountain region. The authors discussed avoiding heat and biting insects as possible reasons males used higher slopes.
