This nighthawk has been recorded along the São Francisco River. It roosts by day in riverside brush and flies low over water near dusk.
The adult male and juvenile male specimens in the original description lacked white markings on the wing, tail, and throat. The tail also lacks a central white band.
It roosts by day in dense, often brushy vegetation near water. Close to dusk it forages entirely in the air, typically flying low over the water; gallery woodland and brush line much of its São Francisco habitat.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
