A buzzard of southern African forests. It watches for prey from a perch, then drops down to catch it.
The sexes have similar plumage, but males are generally smaller. The upperparts are dark brown; the white underparts have darker streaks and blotches. The legs are yellow.
It occurs in Afromontane forest and in pine or eucalyptus plantations near indigenous forest. From a perch it hunts small mammals, birds, reptiles, and large invertebrates.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
