The Guatemalan vole is recorded from Guatemala and Mexico. Its early specimen description notes long, soft fur and dark coloration.
The original description reports yellow-brown and black mixed in the dorsal fur, with a slate-black underside. Its short tail has sparse fur.
Historical collection notes place it on moist slopes and in open ground with grass or brush in the Guatemalan highlands. These are records from a limited set of collection sites.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
