A ground-dwelling bird that breeds in far southern Patagonia, including Tierra del Fuego. Field observations describe feeding in wet grassland and nesting in burrows within open steppe.
About 15 cm long. A 1992 Chilean guide says it resembles the Common Miner, but its rufous wing area is only faintly marked.
At a mixed colony in Tierra del Fuego, wet grassy meadow was used for feeding and open scrubby steppe for breeding. The study reports the two Geositta species nesting deep in rodent burrows.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
