This bat is known from the Chocó region of Colombia and Ecuador. A 2025 voucher study also identified two animals collected in 2000 at Archidona, Napo Province, on the eastern slopes of the northern Ecuadorian Andes.
Adult voucher specimens have soft, woolly brown fur on the back and a lighter underside.
A 2021 survey in Pichincha Province, northwestern Ecuador, captured three individuals of this species in primary forest. Three fecal samples were examined, and the study recorded it as a fruit-eating bat.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
