This nocturnal rat lives in Southeast Asian forests and nearby areas. Short, stiff, reddish-brown hairs stand out among the fur on its back.
Its back is orange to reddish brown and its underside is pale yellow to white. Short, stiff spines occur among the fur, and the tail is darker above than below.
It is mainly terrestrial and nocturnal, feeding on fallen fruit, other plant matter, insects, and other invertebrates. It occurs in primary and mature secondary forest and nearby cultivated areas, but is not reported from heavily degraded habitat or large oil-palm plantations.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
